For the last two years my partner and I have made the trip down South to Manjimp, not only to visit our extended family but to attend the Truffle Kerfuffle. Ever since my first visit to the festival in 2013 I have continued to mark the date in my calendar, and for good reason, the festival gets better each year!
The truffle Kerfuffle was hosted at Fonty’s Pool in Manjimup on Saturday the 27th and 28th of June. The caravan park was transformed for the weekend, with beautiful big white marquees, stalls and of course the smell of truffles. There were cooking demonstrations, a three course meal, a truffle hunt and wine tasting.
I had a great time taste testing the local South West produce; cheese, ginger beer, roasted nuts, dried out fruit, smoked meat and much more. The hubby even treated himself to a bag of fresh potato’s! Fun fact; the potato’s hubby purchased were called ‘salad rose’ and the stall we purchased them from were the only growers of this particular potato in Western Australia!
The highlight for me was seeing truffles first hand. The often mysterious and expensive… mushroom isn’t so readily available in Perth. In fact truffles are extremely rare, and Manjimup seems to have struck truffle gold!
As far as beverages were concerned, there’s not a produce festival in the South West without good country wine! But, aside from alcohol, the Truffle Kerfuffle also had some seriously good coffee. The Marquee was filled with the smell of coffee beans, it was divine. Another favourite of mine had to be bubble tea, a sweet iced tea with jellies.
If your a fresh food lover, than I highly recommend visiting the Truffle Kerfuffle next year!
My Photos from the day:
I couldn’t go past a gourmet sausage sizzle, now could I? Beef and pork sausage in a sourdough bun with truffle mustard. Yum!
$4,000 worth of Truffles in this picture. Wow!
