I often get complimented on my glowy/clear complexion, and I almost always get asked what my go-to skincare products are. I pride myself on maintaining a good skincare regime and I’m pretty pedantic about my step-by-step process.
Funnily enough I wasn’t always blessed with clear skin. As a tween/teenager, I had the absolute worst skin!! I completely struggled with breakouts, I occasionally still get the odd breakout, or two, but its predominately hormonal and around that time of the month…If ya get what I mean. Thinking back now, my terrible skin was a very difficult time in my life. I was embarrassed and depressed that it would never clear-up; hence why skincare is so important to me now!
Whilst I do believe a healthy or balanced diet, along with lifestyle factors play a huge role in the well-being and the overall appearance of our skin (the skin is the largest living organ, after all), I still believe a simple skincare routine is a necessity.
Over the years I’ve trialed numerous products to assist my oily and sensitive skin, whilst also clearing my pores from build-up to reduce breakouts. Another point I believe is particularly important is that a good skincare line-up doesn’t have to be expensive, and you’ll most definitely notice that with my personal routine. There are plenty of affordable products on the market that have the same result as your higher end product, dupes if you please. So don’t fall for the clever marketing of feel like you have to blow your whole paycheck on the next ‘in-trend’ products to get the job done. My tip is to stay wise and do your homework, and if that pricey product is what you really want, then by all means, buy it. I’m not one to hold back if I really want something expensive or not, if it does what it says its going to do, then great!
My Seven step process includes:
Cleanser– Alpha-H Balancing Cream Cleanser:
I start every morning washing my face with this cream cleanser from Alpha, and finish with it every night before I go to bed. I love it because the cream texture doesn’t aggravate my sensitive skin, rather moisturizing it, whilst removing the dirt from my pores. I’ve spoken with a couple of skincare specialists now, and they all agree that a cleansing oil or cream is highly beneficial for those who have sensitive skin, like mine.
Daily Moisturizer– Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture:
I use this oil-free moisturiser every day under my make-up as its not greasy, an extremely important factor to help my make-up last. It doesn’t have any fragrances that irritate my skin, its cheap and I enjoy the texture. It’s just a great all-rounder.
This is by far one of the best SPF’s I have used! It doesn’t smell like sunscreen, it’s not greasy and its actually pink based, so you don’t have that usual white sunscreen faced look; making it perfect to wear underneath your make-up. I personally mix a small amount with my daily moisturiser, but you can most definitely use it on its own.
Eye Cream– Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream:
I’m completely new to the eye cream market, I read somewhere that it was important to start using an eye cream early to combat anti-aging and wrinkles around the eyes, so I thought why not? Anyway I only use a tiny bit in the morning and I dab it on under my eyes with my ring finger. I find that the added hydration allows my concealer to apply better; but for the real results, you might have to get back to me in 10 years with that one!
Make-Up Remover– Aldi Facial Wipes (sensitive):
I find make-up removing wipes so convenient; they’re quick and easy! I love the ones from Aldi because they are stupidly cheap, I’m talking $1.70 for a pack of 30!!! I mean you can’t compete with that! I find they get the job done easily enough and they don’t irritate my skin, so its a win-win situation.
Facial Scrub– Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub:
I use this Dermalogica scrub every night in the shower after I cleanse my skin. It contains natural corn cob meal that acts as little grains to gently exfoliate skin. I love this scrub because it’s not abrasive and it gives me a deeper clean after wearing a face full of make-up!
Night Cream– Aldi Lacura Renew Expert Wrinkle Filling Night Cream:
Oh man, I’m so glad I stumbled across this baby! This ant-aging night cream from Aldi is a dupe for an extremely expensive anti-aging cream from a European skincare company, and is manufactured in Germany. The best part is this cream will only set you back $7.99. Yes your heard me right, $7.99!!! I find it hydrating and moisturizing, without that greasy feeling. This night cream definitely is a must, in my opinion.
